About
Mayke Giesen
Mayke is an urbanist with a Master’s degree from the Delft University of Technology (2024). Her work is driven by a vision of creating inclusive, sustainable spaces that serve all citizens—human and non-human alike. Inspired by the intersection of philosophy, technology, and ecology, her graduation project, Creating Space for Ecological Grief, explored the relationship citizens have with their natural environments, highlighting the importance of integrating ecological sensitivity into an urban setting.
Before earning her master’s degree, Mayke completed her bachelor’s degree with honors at TU Delft in 2021. Her experience includes studying architecture at Toronto Metropolitan University (Canada), interning as an urban designer at JVST in Rotterdam and joining an Urban Living Lab project about co-creation and urban greenery at AMS research institute. Her broad interests also led her to pursue extracurricular courses in geomatics and public transport.
Outside of her professional life, Mayke enjoys staying active, whether through water polo, cycling, or practicing zen meditation.
